ISB Alumni donate Clean Birthing Kits

    Birth-Kit-Presentation-1-1

On Monday, January 14, 2019 ISB Alumni, Global Health Charities, and ISB Graduates from the 1980s were represented by Ms. Patty De Martini Williams and Mr. Harold Albert as they presented to the Thai Ministry of Public Health more than 200 clean birthing kits. These kits were lovingly put together by ISB grads from the ‘80s at the most recent ISB Network reunion, and Ms. Williams delivered them to Thailand on her latest trip to the region. The clean birthing kits contain all of the necessary supplies for a safe, hygienic birth outside of a medical facility, and this particular donation will go directly to the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok who, in fact, deliver scores of babies under emergency situations in the rush hour congestion of the city.

    Global Health Charities

Global Health Charities (GHC) was founded in 2014 by Ms. Williams, an ISB graduate from the Class of 1984, as an off-shoot of her company, Global Health Services Network. Foremost amongst GHC’s work is its Clean Birthing Kit Program. There are many factors involved, but one of the main causes of high neonatal and maternal mortality is infection. GHC’s Clean Birthing Kits ensure that both mother and baby have a clean birth. It is a sad fact that world-wide there are nearly 13,000 deaths daily related to childbirth, with some 90% of these being preventable. The organization has set a goal of donating 100,000 kits, and with this donation, the first to Thailand, the group has now delivered a total of 11,000 kits.

    Enriching communities

This spirit of community service is something that ISB endeavors to instill in its students, and it is heartwarming to see the support from this group of ISB graduates from the 1980s. ISB Alumni Coordinator Harold Albert envisions this program extending to other ISB alumni groups and to the current ISB student body as well. Kudos to all involved for a job well done!
