ISB Alumnus, Athletics Star and Record Breaker

Amanda Giles is an International School Bangkok (ISB) graduate from the Class of 2013. As an ISB Panther, she was best known for her prowess on the athletic fields, staying active in football (soccer), touch rugby, and track & field. A five-time IASAS champion as well as an IASAS track & field record holder, Amanda was part of a group of female student-athletes at ISB who won three championships in one school year – the first time this had ever been accomplished at our international school in Bangkok, Thailand.

After graduating from ISB, Amanda attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado from 2013-2018.  Initially majoring in mathematics, Giles discovered computer science along the way, and she ended up graduating with a double major in these two disciplines.

Amid this busy schedule at the Colorado School of Mines, Amanda found the time to continue her athletic career, competing in the school’s track & field program. She specialized in the heptathlon, a combined event where each athlete participates in seven different running and field events. Amanda found her university track experience to be a welcome break from academic demands. As she put it: “Showing up to college can be isolating, so finding networks and community through extracurriculars is incredibly important.”

After graduation, Amanda started her career in a rotational program for software engineers, at the media company Comcast NBCUniversal. This job allowed her to work with different teams across the United States, using a variety of new technologies. The first rotation found Ms. Giles working on the coast in Silicon Valley, while her current position has her living in New York and working on a data science team that forecasts TV viewership in order to assist the part of the company that sells TV commercial time. Amanda’s journey will continue and her career is only beginning.

Value-Driven and Globally-Minded

Amanda Giles’s athletic career is also going full speed ahead, most recently with an impressive run in the New York City Marathon. This was Amanda’s first marathon, which she completed with a time of 3:37.07 – finishing in the top 15% of the 50,000+ runners who competed in the event.  Amanda fundraised some US $3,000 for The Arthritis Foundation, ensuring that her memorable run would help this worthwhile cause.

Here at International School Bangkok, we are immensely proud of Amanda and what she has accomplished thus far. We applaud her value-driven efforts, and globally-minded spirit, as she presses onward to reach her true potential in her career, as an athlete, and as a global citizen. We believe that these and other ISB attributes provide an important foundation that guides our students through their day-to-day lives, long after they graduate.

Amanda Giles continues to push the envelope so that she can be the best possible version of herself. We are incredibly proud of you, Amanda. You are a true ISB Panther!
