The Grade 7 Social Media Takeover is a result of a collaborative partnership between Middle School English teachers and the ISB Marketing team. The project is an enhanced unit in which students have learned about the important structures and writing for authentic audiences - resulting in the chance to be published live on the school’s website and through social media channels.
ISB Melodies: Building Community Through Music
Written by Ada in collaboration with ISB Marketing & Communications
Did you know that International School Bangkok (ISB) is one of the top international schools in Asia? ISB is a leading institution that continuously seeks ways to grow and nurture the community. One important ensemble that has pulled students from different grades together is IASAS music. This year-long project has nurtured and helped students grow as a team, performing in ensembles, performing individually as well as building community through music with the unwavering dedicated guidance from our ISB teachers. Enriching their passions and talents, these students are known to be extremely committed, creative, and self-managing.
The Power of Community
Community is a powerful thing that can bring hundreds of people together whether it's through music, art, or dance. At ISB, the talented IASAS music delegates gather together to make powerful music that spreads throughout the entire school. Through this initiative, ISB aims for students to create a lifelong love for music and for them to have the magical power of being able to captivate an audience passing the love for music on to the community.
The IASAS music showcase was an extremely memorable night for all the students, teachers, and parents. This event happened on February 13th, 14th, and 15th when the high school IASAS delegates came together to perform for the ISB community. This was extremely memorable because the talented music delegates came together to make captivating music that filled the room and brought joy to everyone that attended.
“The Cultural Convention for Music provides ISB with a forum within which to promote the arts as lifelong interests for all students, as well as an opportunity to extend our reach beyond the ISB community in collaboration with other international schools in Southeast Asia,” says Dr. Stewart, director of strings and orchestras at ISB She states that it is extremely important for ISB students to be able to collaborate with other international schools through their music as well.
An Enthusiastic & Committed Atmosphere: The Student Experience
The journey from just a couple of people sitting on chairs behind music stands with blank sheets of music notes to a whole theater with hundreds of people appreciating the music being made in the moment takes a lot of enthusiasm as well as commitment from the students. Through the IASAS music program, ISB students gained valuable experience and skills that helped them throughout their lives setting themselves up for success in and out of the practice room.
Yongen, an enthusiastic IASAS music delegate states, “Everyone is genuinely interested in creating music together, and although there are a lot of pieces to practice, everyone is really dedicated and there's an enthusiastic atmosphere.” She emphasizes that the engagement and dedication levels of the delegates are crucial in helping each other thrive.
Musical Community
The IASAS music program is a very well-established program that can not only influence young musicians to thrive but to grow their skills and maximize their capabilities as well. It is a very rewarding program that inspires students to go beyond. Through dedicated guidance from teachers and the unlimited commitment of passionate students, this ensemble not only creates beautiful music but also fosters a sense of belonging and community within our school community.
