Adaptability in action

Student-led theatrical productions. Regional music festivals. Outstanding IB results. Long-term arts residencies. Invitational school sports tournaments.  The 2019-20 school year at International School Bangkok (ISB) had plenty of remarkable highlights, while also being marked with the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ISB community adapted and remained resilient, leaving us with many achievements to share from the year. 

We saw our community come together, from a distance, to support, care and connect with each other during lockdown and virtual school. ISB teachers, students, and parents showed real adaptability, ingenuity and resourcefulness as they adapted to an online learning environment. ISB alumni, parent and student groups donated much-needed money and medical supplies to those in need. And events such as High School graduation, which presented real logistical challenges in a time of social distancing, were carried out in new and creative ways to ensure our students had the best send off possible given the circumstances.

The ISB Annual Report for the 2019-20 school year dives into each of these highlights and more, while also providing background stories, testimonials, and statistics from a school year that will stay in the memories of all who participated for a long time to come.

Highlights and achievements

After an inspiring message from our Head Of School, Dr. Andrew Davies, our Annual Report dives into who we are as a school, looking at our leadership, community, teachers and students, and highlighting key and unique events like our senior graduation. We get the inside scoop from Justin Alexander, our High School Principal about how we used creativity and commitment to host one of our most memorable events of the year. 

Much of the school year took place before the pandemic began, and the report revisits the key moments of this period as well. Readers will learn about the recent successes of our school’s sports and arts programs, and enjoy a look back at the many special events held at our Environmental Wilderness Campus (EWC)

We also discuss the achievements of our Student Council, PTA, and Booster Club, along with how our own Native Language Academy continues to enhance learning at ISB. Academic accomplishments are a particular focus of the report, along with the school’s commitment to learning support and student wellbeing.

Our report serves as a snapshot of selected moments in time, during a year that was memorable for so many reasons. Most of all, however, it is a celebration of what our community was able to achieve in a very uncertain and difficult time.

It is often said that a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. This year has made us stronger and brought our community even closer.  We have weathered a storm, and stayed true to our values, making our way forward together.
