The Warmth and Spirit of a True Community School - #uniquelyISB

It takes a lot to make a school great - it comes with hard work and a relentless determination to strive for excellence in academics, activities, and a strong sense of community.

All good schools will offer educational and recreational facilities and opportunities for students to excel, discover their interests and ignite a passion for learning. Truly great schools will do all that and much more - creating those unique extra touches that give students the best possible educational experience as well as lifelong happy memories of their time at school.

Time to Explore #uniquelyISB Number 4 - Our Open Campus Ethos

ISB’s Open Campus ethos welcomes the whole family to enjoy the facilities, host events, and even play the odd game of Ultimate Frisbee with teachers. #uniquelyISB

The word ‘community’ at ISB encompasses many different things. It includes all our members: our parents, students, staff, and alumni. It refers to the strong community spirit of openness, caring, and inclusion at ISB. It permeates our campus and goes beyond our school walls to include the extensive service outreach and action our community makes in Thailand and around the world. It is at the heart of, and strengthened by, the beautiful, safe, and secure surroundings of Nichada Thani.

Head of School, Dr. Andy Davies explains: ‘One of the quite unique aspects of ISB is our open campus ethos. Parents are welcome on campus at all times, and ISB is the center of the community after school and during weekends. Parents make use of the sports facilities, cafeteria, coffee shops, playgrounds, Adult Education program, and much more. This ethos has resulted in the community becoming stronger and more connected for sure (in normal times). It also helps with transparency, it demystifies the school and brings teachers, leadership, and parents closer together’.

The fact that ISB is proudly independent and not-for-profit means that every ISB parent has a stake in the school. Parents are often invited to enjoy concerts and to see their children in action in class or at student-led conferences. There is always something going on, and the school truly is at the heart of the community. The PTA is an engaged, focused group of dedicated parents who work together to create events and activities that bring the community closer together. The parent-run Booster Hut is a hive of activity - offering clothing, gifts, and merchandise with true panther spirit. Booster Hut profits go to create fun experiences for students, such as Senior Treats provided for Grade 12 students working harder than ever in the busy days leading up to exams and graduation. ISB families look forward to Booster Club Panther Pop Days - Panther Pops being delicious sweet treats on a stick guaranteed to give you a boost.

ISB is a community of learners, and the ISB PTA Adult Education Program extends this to our parent community and serves as a way for parents to learn new skills and make new friends. It also provides parents with the opportunity to share their expertise and passions with the community by signing on as a teacher.

With the majority of teachers and families living within a two-mile radius of the school, there’s always the opportunity to get involved in some community activities, such as an energetic Ultimate Frisbee game - what will you discover?
